What your selfie is used for

When you take a selfie to search for your photos, the system analyzes the face in the photo to create a “face signature” (a set of numbers a computer uses to compare faces, not the image itself), then compares it against the faces detected in this event’s photos only, to find photos that contain you. The system never uses your photo or face signature for any other purpose, such as advertising or selling data.

How long your selfie and face signature are kept

Not kept at all. The selfie you take is processed in the system’s memory to create a face signature and run the search immediately, then discarded right after the search completes. No selfie or face signature from a search is ever saved to any permanent storage.

How long photos taken at the event (not your selfie) remain searchable

Faces detected in event photos (taken by photographers) are kept searchable for a limited time after the event ends (typically 90 days after the end date — each event may set its own exact expiry date, shown on that event’s page). After that, the data used for face search (not the photos themselves) is automatically deleted from the search index. The photos themselves remain with the event organizer, subject to that organizer’s own policy.

Who controls your data

Each event’s organizer is the data controller for the photos and attendee data of their own event. They decide whether to enable face search and are responsible for the original photos. This system acts as a service provider (data processor) supplying the technical infrastructure for organizers — it does not own attendees’ data itself.

How to request deletion of your data

Because searchers are anonymous users (no account), the system verifies deletion requests through that event’s organizer, who actually knows the attendees. How to request deletion:

1. Go to the event page you want to request deletion for, and look for the “Request that my face data be removed from this event” link.
2. Attach a selfie so the organizer can confirm it’s really you (this photo is used for identity verification only and is deleted immediately once your request is processed).
3. The organizer will review and delete the photos/data associated with you.

If a photo contains both you and other people, the system only removes the face-search data tied to you — it does not delete the photo itself, since that would affect the rights of the other people in that same photo.

Can I decline? What happens then?

Yes — face search is optional, not required to attend the event. If you don’t consent, the system will not run a search for you. You can contact the organizer directly to ask about viewing event photos through another method instead.
